  • The OP response, while recognizing the need for strong measures against COVID-19, must preserve the achievements in sexual and reproductive health, and protect the right of women and families to FP now and beyond 2020.

From 2011 to 2021, most Ouagadougou Partnership countries doubled their contraceptive prevalence rates. Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo added 4 million modern contraceptive users.

As a result, 18,848,000 unintended pregnancies, 6,697,500 unsafe abortions and 63,740 maternal deaths were averted. The current goal is to reach 13 million users by 2030, thus doubling the current 6.5 million.
