Family planning can shape women’s lives beyond reproductive health by influencing their ability to make decisions about childbearing, pursue economic opportunities, and exercise greater autonomy. This webinar will examine the relationship between family planning and women’s economic empowerment, drawing on evidence from impact evaluations, systematic reviews, and research across sub-Saharan Africa. Presentations will explore whether and how greater reproductive autonomy and access to family planning can contribute to women’s economic outcomes, while considering the pathways and contexts that shape these relationships.

This webinar marks the first in a series. During this webinar and throughout the series, you will hear from recipients of the ICFP 2025 Power of FP Award, which recognized at ICFP 2025 the outstanding efforts to advance policy innovations, research, and programs that position family planning as a foundation for broader health, economic, and social development.
