Persevering against the odds:
Standing up for Abortion Rights in Restrictive Environments
International Safe Abortion Day 2022 Event
Hosted by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and the 2022 International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP), this webinar features abortion rights activists and healthcare providers who are persevering against the odds, supporting women in restrictive settings and mobilizing vast movements for change.
The recent overturning by the US Supreme Court of its 1973 landmark decision in the case of Roe v Wade brings a devastating rollback on reproductive rights. It puts approximately 40 million women and girls of reproductive age at risk of losing access to abortion care and emboldens anti-abortion, anti-women and anti-gender movements across the globe.
However, against this tide, advocates, service providers, and lawmakers are standing up for abortion rights. In this video, learn about the lessons that can be drawn from their work, both for the current US context and other challenging legal and policy environments.
