Population Age Structure Changes in Sub-Saharan Africa

Demographic Dividend Luminaries Series

The William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, the Demographic Dividend (DD) Initiative, and the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) invite you watch to the following webinar:

Watch the full recording of the February 2024 session of the Demographic Dividend Luminaries Series all about the the ongoing population age structure changes taking place in Sub-Saharan Africa.

This conversation focuses on the possibility of “the youth bulge” (a relatively large increase in the proportion of young people within a population), which can play a significant role in a country’s ability to harness the benefits of a “demographic dividend” (the boost in economic growth that can result from changes in a country’s population age structure).

Speakers discuss data innovations that the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is leading to support the African region in attaining a demographic dividend. Additionally, participants examine major concerns related to climate change and population in these contexts.

This event includes an interactive question and answer segment with the live virtual audience and is now available to watch in English and French.

This event was originally hosted on Thursday, 18 January 2024 9-10 AM EST.
