ICFP 2025: Standing Strong with Our Community Amidst Challenges
The International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) has always been more than just a conference—it is a movement, a platform for global collaboration, and a community acting as a driving force for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) advocacy.
Despite the challenges posed by the U.S. Government’s policy changes around foreign assistance, we are unwavering in our commitment to ensuring that our community remains connected, supported, and equipped to advance SRHR for all.
Your feedback is essential. Please fill out this Community Needs Assessment Survey to help shape a more inclusive and impactful global family planning (FP) response.
Our Commitment to the FP Community:
1. Abstract Review & Key Dates
- The deadline for abstract submissions has been extended to 19 April 2025—submit an abstract here.
- Abstract reviewer sign-ups have been extended to 1 April 2025. If you want to become an abstract reviewer, please sign up here (no organizational affiliation required).
2. Keeping ICFP Accessible & Inclusive
- We are reducing non-essential expenses to redirect resources toward enhancing participant access, including increasing travel assistance for delegates.
- We are collaborating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to secure visas and eliminate as many barriers as possible for participants who require travel authorization.
- We are actively encouraging new participants to join ICFP 2025, expanding the reach and inclusivity of our movement.
3. Ensuring Strong Program Integrity
- The ICFP 2025 scientific program will highlight research showcasing the broader societal benefits of family planning, including maternal and newborn health, gender equity, education for girls, climate resilience, and economic growth.
- The conference tracks will continue to cover the entire range of SRHR topics to ensure diverse and comprehensive discussions.
- We welcome research, program implementation, and advocacy abstracts in English, French, and Spanish—submit an abstract here.
4. Supporting Subcommittee & Community Engagement
- Participation in ICFP subcommittees is open to everyone, and no organizational affiliation is needed.
- Participants can sign up and engage using personal emails moving forward. Subcommittee co-chairs will maintain confidentiality, including by Bcc’ing members in all communications.
- We continue to work to fill the ICFP ISC subcommittee co-chairs. Thank you to everyone who has stepped up as a new co-chair and for the contributions of former co-chairs. We are committed to ensuring the complete continuity of all ICFP subcommittee plans leading up to the conference.
5. Providing Flexibility for Abstract Submission & Presentation
- We acknowledge the effects of the USG stop-work order and will extend the deadline for abstract submissions for all presenters until 19 April 2025.
- All submitters’ identification information will remain confidential throughout the review process. Submissions can be made using a personal email.
- Presenters can add institutional affiliations to accepted abstracts after the 90-day stop-work order is expected to be lifted.
6. Expanding Financial Support for Attendance
- We prioritize travel and registration funding to ensure key voices are heard at ICFP 2025.
- Funding will extend beyond ICFP Youth Trailblazers and Early Career Researcher Awardees to include a broader group of participants based on abstract quality and financial need.
- We will create a unique travel award for the highest-quality research, program, and advocacy submissions that best illustrate how family planning positively impacts a broader range of health and development outcomes.
7. Enhancing the ICFP Virtual Experience & Global Reach
- The ICFP 2025 Plenary Stage, ICFP LIVE Stage, and select high-impact sessions will be live-streamed and recorded to an online video library.
- Each session time slot will include a fully virtual session to accommodate those who cannot travel. We will prioritize the highest-scoring abstracts.
